I've had my 06 Ultra since Oct last year and just turned 8400 miles on her. Not one issue with the HK radio and I've been through some pretty crazy rain storms.

My unit had lines in the LCD from the factory.

It was replaced and there have been no further issues.

I would not go so far as to claim "across the board" problems or that "everyone has problems".

 

Mine works fine. Been in the rain some- had it since January.

 

Mine took a dump the other day, I've had my 06 Ultra since Early Sept last year. I almost have 4k miles on it and thought things were going great until the display went out. Up until that time I had no problems, the stereo was much louder than the one I had with my 05 Classic. It plays loud enough that I can hear it fine at 70mph, I find no need for better speakers I just need the damn display to work.

 

Mine has worked flawlessly since mid October, guess I'am one of the lucky ones too!

 

based on feedback from a lot of 06 owners, i think the operative word here seems to be "eventually."

i didn't have any problems with mine - until I did.

your mileage may vary, but i don't think there's anyone saying these units are bulletproof, or without their (well documented) issues.

 

I fall into the "eventually" group. My HK stereo worked fine for 6 months and 4000 miles. About a month ago it started going into the mute mode without warning. I've never ridden in the rain, and I hand wash the bike with a bucket and sponge. No chance of water messing up my electronics. My problem seems to be worse in the heat, but that may be coincidence. I'll be heading to the dealer soon.
As for the Hogtune speakers, how in the heck are they going to fix a "mute mode" problem? Mute is mute, regardless of the speakers.

I think a lot of it has to do with first year production issues. As with any the update there are bugs to work out and dealing with un-forseen problems. I had a GL-1800 ABS with the it's new 6 disk CD changer. Honda ended up having to have a re-call, by the second year they had resolved the problems. Doesn't help ... I know.... just my nickels worth..

 

Mine was just replaced by dealer. Went through rain and display went blank. After that display would become visible and then fade out again. It had worked fine the previous 6000 miles.
