Default How's your 09 Fuel Guage

With only 1000 miles on my 09 EG Classic I've only found 1 issue. When the needle reads near E, I get a fill up. Funny thing is it only take 3 - 3.5 gallons on a 6 gallon tank. Dropped the bike off today at dealer for service and the reply was did the light come on. Well no I still had 3 gallons. Seems to me the needle should read near half with a 6 gallon tank when 3 are left. Or is my math wrong? Having a hard time getting the tech to understand this. Just told him to check it anyhow.

Ive noticed this on my 09 RKC as well. It seems that the last quarter of a tank is really closer to half a tank (3 gal) of fuel left. If you push your odometer button you can scroll through and it will give you the range you have left with what fuel is left in the tank. I dont like to rely on that though. I have a friend who has an 02 RKC. He says when he gets down to the last half of his tank he can only go maybe 50 miles on the last half of his tank.

The guage is highly inaccurate.

I use the digital miles to empty readout as well as the red light to keep me up to date on where I am at re getting low. (Mostly I use the digital readout)

My guage does the same thing. I don't really care because I don't trust it anyway. But if it is going to be wrong, that's the way to be wrong. I just set the trip meter and go with the knowledge that I get about 40 MPG and look for fuel when I'm approaching 200 miles on the trip meter.

Cool

I have an 09 Ultra and when I picked it up, the sales guy gave me the usual intro. When he got to the fuel gauge he says its highly inaccurate and that i could use the digital mileage calculator. It is very accurate and the light will come on with about a gal of fuel left in the tank. He was right.

09 Glide....I have to say it's dead on ***** accurate.
When I'm on empty or very slightly above, the light comes on. When I fill up I take 5 gallons out of 6.

Works good for me....

I have an 09 Ultra Classic and an 09 Heritage. Both are way off but all my Harley's are off on the gas guage.

They are both also about 2.5 to 3 miles per hour wrong also.

How hard could this be to get right? I guess harder than we think.

i go by the digital read out (r for RANGE)
mine will say 260-265 when full.
ran it all the way down till the fuel light comes on about 35 miles left to go.. then kept riding till it read LOW road another 24 miles and then filled up. yea i know i was pushing it. but i REALLY wanted to know how far i could go. (i had 1/2 gal fuel jug in the saddle bag anyway for the test. and it is really accurate...

5.8 gal in a 6 gal tank...

My '09 RG fuel gauge drops 1/4 per gallon....leaving me with 2 gallons at E.
Fuel light comes on below that and it needed +5 gallons.
I go looking for gas with 150 miles on the trip meter anyway because of habit.
