Default Ignition Coil Performance Swap Out?

Been thinking about spark plugs and ignition coil improvements lately.

Had a guy tell me, a while ago, he went to a Buell coil and got a nice performance boost. I believe this was on an older engine in a custom hardtail he built.

Its always been stuck in the back of my mind, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this on 96TCs.

Is there any benefit in upgrading the coil? What's the preferred part?

I too have been looking to improve the ignition components on the Glide but other than a set of SE 10mm Orange plug wires that is all H-D sells for our bikes! It would be interesting to see more posts on this subject!

Normally upgrading the coil and wires are to just make certian the rest of your performance parts work up to par. I have not yet seen a performance coil for late model Harley touring models or any specs on the stock coil to even see if you need one.
I do always upgrade wires to MagNaCores, they don't improve performance but you at least know you don't have the stock junk Harley wires on your bike anymore. I've had problems with Harley wires several times.

I think HD must be using a Higher Output Coil w the newer ECM models because they don't offer a SE high output coil like they use to. A HO coil and better wires use to be a great upgrade for performance on the carb bikes. Hot Bike 07/1995 ran dyno # and HP jumped fr 55 to 63, mpg 46.4 to 52, w stock plugs gapped .060 w Jacobs coil. They no longer produce HD coils but I had one on my 92 and then an SE coil and always got 50 MPG. I use to index my plugs also but can't find the 12mm index washers for the smaller plugs. Crane use to make a hotter coil, maybe someone has their tech. help #.

Cool

Haven't seen anything on coils but be careful on plugs. They need to have the tips permenatly attached. Had autolights with the screw on tips could not get them to stay tight and they kept sending a error code to the computer and bike ran like **** (shut down when clutch would be pulled in or idle would stay at 500). Have not seen any with perminate tips othe than harley.
