Default Not Bad, 10K Service + Two New Tires = $332

Not Bad, 10K Service + Two New Tires came due at the same time. Well I spent all day and I guess my labor is worth something. But still I don't think that's too bad considering in I spent about 30 minutes detailing each wheel and another 30 minutes on the mufflers since I had them off. And I'm kinda slow.

Tires F $116
R $160
Formula+ $ 7
Valvoline Syn 80w90 $8
HD Oil Filter $10
4 Qts V-Twin 20w-50 $24
HD O-Ring/Gasket set $5
Wheel Weights $2
____
$332

Congrats!

Is there a reason you replaced the front tire at 10,000 miles?

Just wondering.

Doing your own wrenching saves lots of $$$

Thanks. I've been doing my own tires for years because for years there wasn't a motorcycle dealer anywhere near me. So I have a balancer, bead breaker, and assorted tire irons and rim protectors. (Marc Parnes has a nice balancer and is on this forum sometimes) I also bought a Sears Pro lift since my Harley doesn't have a center stand. The biggest job (for me) on this Harley is removing and re-installing the rear wheel. It'll go faster next time though.

Yes it's a 408. For the great price I just called a number of dealers and asked for their best cash and carry price on tires. As you may know the 2009/10 Tourring tires are still only available from a Harley Dealer.
Both the front and rear had a *little* left till the wear bars but the 407 front was really cupped and the rear was squared off. If I were on the road heading home I wouldn't have worried getting maybe another thousand out of them but that would be it. For what it costs, I replace them in pairs and in this case they were both worn about equally. And "oh my with new F&R tires it feels like a brand new motorcycle"!

That's pretty slick. Good job. Why the cupping on the front tire? Kinda strange for a brand new scoot.

It's been a known issue with the "backwards running tread" on the D407 fronts. Dunlop and HD came to an agreement and reversed the tread relabeling it a D408.
It's hard really tell here but you may be able to see the cup in the front tire (on the right), kind of across from the "P" and "D" letters on the rear.

Be sure to hold onto your tire and receipt for the front tire. Many people here have had their dealers tell them that the MoCo is going to issue a recall for the D407F's sometime soon. And apparently they will reimburse you if you already changed it.
