5k mile service, do you do it?
My bike is fast aproaching the 5k mile mark, Until now Ive done all the maintenance myself, except the 1000 mile service. I plenty confident doing the work myself, however Im worried If I dont let the dealer do it then it may affect my warranty. What are your thoughts? I called my dealer and they want $350 to do a 5k service. Seems like an expensive oil change to me. I know all the other "stuff" they say they do, but Im wondering how many of you let the dealer do the services like the 5k, 10k, etc. or how many do them yourself?

Save receipts for fluids, filter, gaskets, whatever you have to buy to do the service.
Atleast have some type of record of the service being done.
Legally I don't think your dealer can hold it against you.All depends on the dealer in question and the situation I guess.I don't think anybody can tell you if your dealer will hold it against you unless you find somebody that uses the same dealer.
I'd do it myself and save my $350 for something else.

RE: 5k mile service, do you do it?
I've done the 1K, 2.5K, 5K, 7.5K myself. Took the road glide in today to have the dealer do the 10K. Why - I'd rather ride than work on the bike. The only time I have to work on the bike is the weekends and thats the time I want to ride. The maintenance isn't particularly difficult, only time consuming. I'm probably going to buy the maintenance agreement, 50% off the standard pricing for twelve services.
If you're going to do the service yourself, just keep records of purchases to prove you did the maintenance.

If you have the manual - do it yourself. I've done all of mine and like mentioned earlier, you know what's been done and what hasn't. Just keep the receipts and log it and you are good to go. If you really don't feel like it or are pressed for time, go to an independant. Many of them are very very very good and they will actually do what the service calls for - and for alot less. I just like to "bond" with the bike so I do it myself, but not everyone shares in that opinion or cares to even get into it. If you have the confidence in yourself, then build on that. Every hour I spend doing something on the scoot myself either justifies another trinket or tool. I bought a jack and other goodies just in what I saved on the 1K alone. All depends on how much you like to do that kinda stuff!
