Unhappy Jackpot Mufflers Will Not Stay Put - What Gives!!!

This may seem strange but my jackpot mufflers will not stay put. The muffler on the right(brake side) wants to move forward towards the front of the bike and the muffler on the left(clutch side) wants to move towards the back of the bike. This is the second time I have had to re-position them in the centre of the rubber saddle bag mounts.

What gives?? Has anyone else had this problem??

I used new muffler clamps when I originally installed them.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

try locating the clamps further up onto the pipe where it connects with the header pipe. You may get a better "crimping" action closer to the ends of the slip-ons. good luck. Mine loosened up a bit (Rush slip-ons), so I did that and cranked down on the clamps.

What can happen is on some headpipes that have either had several mufflers installed or a set of muffler clamps over tightened even with the stock mufflers it can actually reduce the size of the headpipe slighly. I recommend moving the clamps forward and making sure they are properly torqued. It is also helpful to use a small amount of silicone sealant which will help as well. If you need any assistance just give us a call.

Thanks for the info Jamie, I will give that a try.

With regards to the silicone sealant, is there a certain heat resistant type for exhaust systems?

Whow.....16 minutes with a response to my thread.......what service.....keep up the great work.

We use Permatex Ultra Copper which is a high temp sealant

I haven't heard of mufflers moving forward, but I had a Rush muffler (right-side) that would move rearward regardless of the torque used on the clamp or its position on the flange, and even new clamps would not hold. I bought another rear rubber muffler hanger and attached it forward of the one supporting the muffler. This keeps it from moving forward. The two washer-like objects forward of this second hanger are one metal and one rubber washer that I fabricated to keep the hanger from distorting. These probably aren't necessary, but I obviously had little to do that day.

BTW, when I replaced these with Jackpots the problem disappeared, although the second bumper remains in place. Also, you could cut the bumper to make the muffler fit as you wish, but in my case it matched the left side in this position.
