Make sure when mounting the rack that you DON'T place it all the way against the backrest pad because you then risk the chance of wearing a hole in the backrest pad due to vibration and you will not have any place to attach a bungee to tie down cargo to the rack.

Well I like to do things myself but I seen that worthless HD template and there is nothing flat about the tourpak lots of angles. I looked up how much a new tourpak was. Went to my dealer and they said $50.00. So I went and had a beer and let them do it.

I wasn't tired one bit when they got done.

+1 on the tape. Put the tape on, set the rack on the tape, draw a circle around each leg, drill the correct hole for each leg, pull the tape, fasten, and open that beer.

Seriously took me less then a hour. If you are getting a rack setup for a light (AeroRack?) One hole is larger then the other three to make room for the wiring.

You like to do things yourself but paid the dealer $50 to drill four holes in plastic and put four screws in?? What kind of things do you do yourself??
Just curious.

Agreed, he probably paid someone to get the beer and open it for him.

I'm a total fraidie cat when it comes to drilling my fiberglass. I just paid the dealership to do it. $75.00 or so was cheap insurance for me.
