Default Cutting into saddlebag

I have a Sony with a ipod cable into which comes out of the back of the radio. I ran the cable under the tank console and seat going into the bag. I was thinking of using a drill bit the size of the cable to lay the cable in as it goes into the bag. I didn't know if this would eventually cause a crack to run from where I drill it. Or any other problems. If anyone has a better solution that would be appreciated too.

My cable fits between the lid and bag. I wouldn't cut my bag but I have drilled a hole in the rear of the left bag to let the water drain out when the ice melts.

Nice lookin Chopper Blue. I had one just like it that I traded in on an 09 SG.

Ya I am doing this, but was worried about the cable being pinched and eventually wearing out.

Thanks, I do like the color a lot.

A guy I ride with did the same thing and drilled into his bag. We did it about 2 years ago but what we did was drill the hole a little bigger than we needed and the installed a rubber grommet that we picked up at a regular parts store for about $2. No problems so far and I would guess hes put on at least 10K. No cracks or problems. Good luck

On a similar note I drilled into my right bag two years ago to relocate the air tank for my seat inside. I drilled two holes on the inside for screws to mount the tank in the front inside wall area of the bag then another above to run the air line inside. Two years and about 17,000 miles and it's still going strong, lookin good as well.

The rubber grommet will protect the bag and wire by isolating them fro each other. Very low cost. I do custom wiring at times and the rubber isolators is a must, especially when going trough metal or parts that could crack or put wear on something.

I had a cd changer in my bag for close to 30K miles in a couple of years. No problem at all.
