Default Bike loses all electrical power once it's hot

Hey all,

Anyone had the this experience? I have and 02 RG and twice yesterday the bike lost all electrical power once it was hot. I let it sit for 15 minutes, and it's good to go again.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Kevin

The circuit breaker located on the rear fender just behind the rear exhaust pipe needs to be updated. The Motor Company went with larger amp breaker. I bought mine at Napa Auto Parts, about $7.00. Good luck

Really... I will look into that for sure. Is that something that can just go bad? I have 47K on the bike and am just now experiencing this.

Thanks Again!

Yep, they go bad. Once You have replaced it if the problem continues, you have a short someplace.

HD had a recall on the breakers they were 40amp went to 50 do to heat issue and poor location behind rear cylinder, when the bike gets hot the breaker trips .I myself and alot of people had this problem on 02s bring it back to HD and see if the recall was done I also had them relocate my breaker to under the side cover never had another problem after that good luck

Battery is not charging. Have you recently installed a new voltage regulator. Check very closely where the regulater wires are routed. May have worn the shield off the wires someplace. Good luck.

I had an 02 Ultra Classic that did this. The dealer couldn't diagnose it or duplicate it even if they left it running for a period of time. After breakdown 3 times out of state, I took it back to the dealer and they sold it. Seven months after selling the bike, I read in a magazine that HD had a recall for a breaker that would periodically open up when hot for all 02 FLH models. Check for recalls to 02 FLH models.

On my 93 Ultra I am having the same problem, when I stop at a red light for a period of time and the weather is warm 85 degrees or so, My bike loses all electrical power. but 10 or 15 seconds later it comes back on, it's driving me nutz! any help would be wonderful.
