Just got back from Sturgis and finally needed new tires. Changed both with 3/32" remaining. My rear lasted 15,000 miles and my front was the original with 25,000 miles. I'm pretty religious about keeping the tire pressure at 36F/40R. Last summer I changed the rear at 10,000 and it probably had 2,000 remaining. Pretty decent mileage.
2nd rear tire 12k,22k on the front.Still had a couple thousand left but got a fair deal on the road.Went ahead and replaced the rear pads too.No more squeal.
I don't know how anyone gets 15k out of a D402 rear. My first two got only 10k with maybe 1/32" remaining, but the E3 replacement is now at 16k with about 40% of tread left.
I've got 12000 on mine now, and it has well above 3/32" remaining. I ride a balance of very curvy road and interstate, but I think the real secret is just being easy on the throttle....no secret there.
Just had my 10k service and was told that both tires have lots of life yet. Probably get some E-3s this winter. I hear they stop the fifth gear whine and seal any oil leaks.
Got 17,905 miles out the rear 402, the front looked good for another 2~3K miles but got a good deal and put on new E3s today. MT90B-16 front and 160/80-16 rear (mighty close to the belt cover) probably remove the cover or "mod" it.
I got 9000 out of my rear. Maybe could have pushed it to 10K but with only 2/32" left I went ahead and replaced it with an E3. Still have the D402 front.
