I'm just about to replace both my front and rear tire. Front is original with 32k on it and the current rear has around 16k on it. D402's work great for me.

O.K. All you guys that were running D402's and getting crappy mileage that switched to E3's and are getting great mileage. My last D402 rear I got 18,500 on it. If I switch to the E3 I should get about 30,000?!?!?!? I got 31,000 on the front so am I to expect 50,000 on it??

It will be interesting to see, but it will be awhile. I only have 10,000 on my back tire right now and 16, 000 on my front. Both D402's.

I am at 21000+ on the rear and I just checked tread depth at 4/32. The front has the same mileage and also has 4/32 tread left. I commute on the superslab and run at 70mph most of the time and 95% of those miles are solo and I only weigh a buck fifty (150lbs) Tire pressure at 36f/38r.

8,000 miles per rear 402 (mostly daily commuting). God Bless you guys that get over 15K.

I'm doing maybe 100% better than I did with D402's, but since there is a great disparity between riders as to tire mileage I wouldn't assume you'd do that well. I just know I couldn't get 18,500 on a D402 rear if you paid me and I won't go back. I weight 170#, ride only solo and fairly conservatively, keep pressures at 37/40, and never do burnouts--so I should do as well as any.

One rider once suggested that location might be a factor, as since heat affects longevity our relatively warm weather in S. LA year-round would make the tires exposed to warmer running conditions throughout their lifetime. That theory falls apart given that you live in S. FL, which is definitely no cooler than here.

Was thinking the same as you.I thought 12000 mi, for me here in Woming might be due to climate.I'm 235lbs. and always ride 1up loaded down.Probably could have gone a good 14k though.

We ride basically the same, except that I am probably about 30% 2-up to 70% solo. Same climate. Seems odd there is such a difference between us. Mine should actually be worse as I weigh more and ride 2-up as well.

I am interested in what the E3's will produce. I can get them both for $190.00 delivered from jakewilson.com. I guess I will find out in a couple months. Should be ready for a rear then, front will be close enough to swap it at the same time.

I haven't mentioned this before, but I put about eight rear tires on my old RK in >100k miles, all D402 MT90-16. The best I got was about 14k (the first two in the late 1990's), but then saw a reduction to about 12k up to the time I traded the bike in 2006, with no change in conditions or riding style. The '07 has MU90-16 and all I got out of the first two were 10k, which was not acceptable to me since it meant changing tires more than once per year.

I see no downside to the E3's and see numerous improvements over the D402's. This includes very secure handing in wet and dry, much better durability, and much less groove tracking. The downside? Not for me, but if you must have a WW you are SOL, as E3's only come in BW. Also, there aren't any sizes for '09 and later bikes yet.
