Default Primary Bolts

Can anyone tell me the length of the primary bolts. It appears there is 2 different lengths. I have an 07 RG. I would buy the kit from HD, but I only want the bolts for the primary and not the derby cover. I know they are 1/4 20, but not the length. I have tried to do a search on this site and could not find anything. Thanks in advance.

best to go on and get the kit. if you use the stainless buttonhead or standard stainless, they are grade 5 at best, usually much softer. the harley kit isn't expensive once you get to adding up each individual piece. by the way, there is a very simple way to do this so you don't screw up with torque sequence when installing. get a sheet of the 1/2" thick light blue rigid foam insulation that's big enough for the primary cover gasket to set on. a piece from lowes or home depot that has a messed up edge or broken corner would be okay. take the new gasket and draw with a sharpie around it, inside and outside of the gasket on the blue styrofoam stuff. poking a hole with a phillips screwdriver where each of the bolts goes. when you remove the old bolts, place them in the holes you just punched. it's far easier to match them that way rather than on the floor near where you're working. and number the holes as per the torque sequence. after the job is done, store the sheet somewhere it won't get damaged or lost. you may end up using it again. hope this helps.

I got a complete chrome kit for $61.95 that included Primary, Tranny Side, Cam Base and Derby Cover. Looks real good on, part# 2401-0297. Includes the tiny washers as well.

They also sell the primay and derby for $30.95, part# 2401-0278.

I just finished replacing all of the motor and trans bolts with chrome. I bought the kits from HD but when I opened them up I was pretty disappointed in the chrome quality, or lack of it. I took the kits back to the dealer and exchanged them for individual chrome bolts. I think most dealers stock all of the bolts individually in chrome and the best part is it was cheaper to buy them individually. They let me sort through them so I could reject any that I was not satisfied with. The dealers have a breakdown of all of the bolt sizes.

Glad I didn't have to deal with that, the Gardner Wescott ones are flawless. I put a dab of silicone on the allen wrench when they were installed and went over them all so I don't have to deal with rust.
