i have a 2009 street glide with about 1500miles and have a question about the clutch. it works perfectly when the bike is warmed up, but when the bike is cold and i start it in gear the bike jerks forward a little. if i start it cold in neutral and put it into first it gives off a nice clunk. im not a moron i know that means the clutch is not disengaging all the way, but i adjusted the clutch internally a couple of times and cant seem to get it to disengage all the way when the bike is totally cold. after about a minute or 2 it operates completely normally after the clutch warms up a bit. just wondering if anyone has any ideas. thanks.
My 08UC does the same thing. The reason it jerks forward is because the oil in the primary is cold and thick. I start mine in neutral, and hold in the clutch while it warms up. (1 or 2 mins) Then shift into first with no clunk.

This is correct. In fact on my motocross bikes if they sit for weeks which they often do (I need to break down and sell them) the plates will really get stuck together until the oil warms up a bit. I switched to ATF in my primary and it really made a difference.
Mine does the same thing...perfectly normal. My KTM dirt bikes would lunge when shifted into gear..and would actually kill the motor sometimes. Cold oil is plenty thick!!

Yep, my KTM's do the same thing. (Oops, this is a Harley forum.)
I put Syn3 in my primary at 1K and had the same problems you are having. I switched to the Formula+ at 2300 miles and everything operates normally now. I think the thicker oil does effect the clutch action until it gets warm.
If you start it in gear cold the starter has to start the engine plus pull a dragging clutch tring to move the bike. If you start it in neutral all the starter has to do is spin the tranny, your choice
