I've never used synthetic and have very little lifter noise.

I have an 08 Road king, at around 25,000 mi. started having lifter noise. took to h-d dealership and they replaced 1 lifter, still have the noise. i've been using mobile 1 since
.

I tried it. 450 miles into a road trip I thought my bike was making metal it had so much noise. Pulled into a dealer to get it drained out of mine and my wife's bike. As far as I'm concerned it was a $300.00 mistake.

As someone else posted, I too, use dino only and have no noise......

I noticed a similar issue on my '08 UC but only in the winter (we're lucky here in the deep south that we can ride year 'round).

I began to use 15w50 in the summer and 10w50 in the winter. While the differences between the 10w and 20w aren't that great, it seems to have eliminated the start up noise.

Ok, i didn't mean to start an oil thread, but i didn't switch to mbl 1 syn till 18,500 mi. then began to have the loud tapping @ 25,000 mi. took it to the dealer and was told they didn't have time to work on it, took it back in @ 29,000 and they replaced one lifter picked it up at closing time and it still had the noise (i live 100 mi from the nearest dealer) didn't want to leave it again. went on a trip to virginia (great trip) now with 34,500 mi. i still have the problem. i thought it might be the syn oil, but could be pos lifters. at any rate i wondered if anyone else had had a problem with the syn oil and if it was the culpret. maybe not but figured if anyone else had a problem they would respond.

Switched to Mobil 1 at my 1k service on my 09. Also used it in my 08 and 07. I've always notice alot of noise but I just chalk it up to the way they are. I am due right now for my 5k and for chits n giggles I was gonna switch back to dino in the crankcase just to see if it makes a difference.

I had to have 2 lifters replaced at 25000 miles.Used Amsoil for 20000 of the 25000.

Sounds to me like they replaced the wrong lifter. And why would they only replace 1 lifter, they should have replaced all 4 of them while it was apart.

I've been using Mobil 1 for the past 4 years and 40000 miles, no problems at all here.
