Default wind turbulence

i have a 2008 flhtcu.I had major turbulence problems with standard uk screen 9". changed it to a 12 and then a 15. now working 10inch with a lammer lip. tried a 10.5 clearview with recurve plus a windblade but the 10.5 with lip is as good as i can get up to about 60mph. after that my head gets knocked around by turbulence. tried changing from full face to arai open face and not a lot of diference. i've read about about a wind deflector but all pictures i've seen seem to be for something to fit onto forks where i already have fork lowers. any help appreciated. i'm at point of giving up and selling bike having had to already cancel a planned road trip cos i could not keep up to speed on motorways

Had same issue, went with one of these, problem solved, cheap and great service.

Oh,I tried the recurve route on last bike this was much better improvement.

I had this problem with my RK with a 16inch windshield.
Adding the fork mounted wind deflectors helped quite a bit in reducing the turbulence around my head.
It could always be better but I'm happy and can live with it.

i made arrangements to get a long ride windshield for my streetglide. they're supposed to raise the air stream higher than the straight up design and i've got a harley davidson windshield on mine now at 10", this should help.

+1 for Clarks Custom, I just installed a 12 inch half-moon Clarks Custom Shield. I now look thru the shield which I don’t like, but this has been the best shield I’ve tried so far, but I still have some buffeting at highway speeds. I think the remaining wind is coming up from the underside of the fairing and tank area NOT from the windshield. I wonder if someone has designed a wind deflector to mount on the engine guard to help with wind under the fairing. Good luck I hope this helps. Oh ya this is my 4th windshield.

I just went through this whole thing with my shield, which is why I am selling my clearview w/ recurve - stock height - from my road king classic. I was getting turbulence with my stock shield, and with the recurve, so I put on my lowers and went back to the stock shield to get an idea as to what was happening. So here I am, riding along, getting my head knocked around, and got so frustrated that I grabbed the windshield, and all of a sudden, the vibrating in my ears stopped. What was this?!? I took my hands off the shield, and the vibrating came back. Hmmmm.... was it the windshield vibrating? Shouldn't be... the clearview didn't vibrate at all... so I put my fingers on the top corners of the screen, and away went the vibrating, and that is when I had my aha moment! The wind is creeping over / around the corners of the shield, and gets into a tumbling / swirling motion as it meshes with the air being redirected by the screen. I actually drove a mile on a straight highway by holding the corners of the shield, and keeping my fingers there.. trying different heights / angles. I then went to my office and cut out a couple of cardboard pieces to simulate my shield being higher, with the top curve being less, and with it higher / top curve less / wider by an inch. The more I blocked the corners of the shield, the less buffeting I had, so I had solved the great mystery!! I am waiting for a call back from the Clearview Shields owner, in which I will be asking him to make my Road King shield 1.5" taller, and 1" wider, but with a flat curve at top, and recurve... problem solved! I hope this helped....

The standard screen in the UK is 9"? Here in the US it's 12". How tall are you? I'm 6'1" and don't get any buffeting with either the stock straight 12" or the 9.5" Clearview with recurve. Now the fairing does get pushed around by cross winds, but that's a subject for another thread.

90% of turbulence comes up our legs and torsos from underneath the windshield and fairings. I have a Cee Baily's windshield and lowers on my Street Glide but the strings from my hooded sweatshirt will still float in front of my face while riding. As soon as put my left arm across my chest the turbulence goes away and the strings go limp. On my Wide Glide, I used to think my windshield wasn't big enough until I put my feet on the back pegs one time...all turbulence went away as soon at the wind was allowed to pass through, underneath me. Like I said, this is where 90% of turbulence (eddy air, that swirls around your head) comes from, but 90% of riders don't realize it, and 100% of Harley engineers don't understand how bad it can be.

this is an odd report for an e/glide. i use a klockworks flair windshield and i am 6' tall and have no problem with excess buffetting. i do hear the v-stream windshield is the (cat's pajama's), meaning good deal over here. i would check them out. also wonder why the roadking guys are giving you there thoughts?? also there is alot of wind that does come up from below and pushes up under your chin on the e/glide and there are deflectors avail for this if it is part of your problem. i took my 12" stock windshield off the first day i rode my 07 e/glide. cant stand looking through a windshield, prefer looking just over the top, more so when raining.
