2010 Ultra, are they really that much better?
Went to my local dealership last week and picked up a new oil filter. While I was there, got to talking to one of the salesman, he caught me looking at a2010 Ultra. While I was looking at the new bike, the salesman said the new 2010's were much better than my 2008 Ultra. I asked him how are they better? He said HD made 450 new changes to the bike. Everything from the wheels to the frame to the motor and even how the bags are mounted to the bike. He never really told me why the bike is better just the changes HD made to the bike. I said "OKAY", let me take it for a spin to experience the difference myself. He said "No problem" leave us the keys to your bike so we can determine the trade in cost and get the paperwork started. I told the salesman I was not interested in trading in my 08 Ultra on the 2010, I just wanted to experience the difference of the 2010's since he brought up the issue. Long story short, no joy ride for me. Is the 2010 Ultra really that much better?

2009 models. I had a 2005 Scream-n-Eagle FLHTCSE2! I gave up 7 inches on the Motor! Don't regret it at all. Anyway, while your test riding an 2009 model... do yourself a favor and ride Wille G's. bike of choice the FLHT! There are Mass improvements either way, Batwing or Sharknose. Believe It!

At the Rapid City display, the only difference I could see between the 2009 Ultra's and 2010 Ultra's was a change in the location of the O2 sensors.
I have since read they changed 5th gear on the 2010's so it doesn't make so much noise. Actually, I like the different sound of 5th gear on my 2009 Ultra as it helps me know what gear I'm in.
I traded my 2006 Ultra for a 2009. If you question is, "Are the 2009/2010 Ultra's that much better?" then I would vote "Yes!" The new bikes have more power, better gearing, and surprisingly better handling. Most everyone that I've talked to really likes them.
I rode a 2007 when they first came out and had no desire to trade my '06 Ultra for the bigger engine and 6-speed which seemed to me to be grossly over-geared in 6th.
After riding an '09, it was obvious that Harley finally "got it right," so I traded. Sixth gear is still an "overdrive" but it does not lug down at 55 mph and has the power to pass in 6th without downshifting.
By the way, I only put 52,000 miles on the 2006 Ultra but never had a mechanical problem. So far, in two months, I only have 6,500 miles on the 2009 Ultra. So I really don't have enough experience with either bike to speak about reliability.
