To Build or Not To Build??

To Build or Not To Build??
I really like my 07 ultra. It runs good with the current setup. I know that I'm insane for wanting more but I am hungry for the torque and hp of a stout 110 inch motor. I have the money in hand. The question is should I update the bike to a 09 or 2010 and get the new frame and other updates first.
I'd like to hear some opinions from the guys that have already done the engine upgrades on 08 or older bikes. Are you content with your decision or do you long for the newer better handling machines?
Dawg, Phil, are you guys out there??

Love those 110's. Even more I love seeing the looks on those guys face in my rearview on their $30000 SE bikes while Im pulling away on my little 98" Road King LOL.
There are a lot of great 107 setups, but if your deadset pulling the whole motor boring cases, doing crank work etc... I would advise looking to a 117-124. Wouldnt cost anymore in labor, and a lot more bang for your buck at that level.
Good Luck

Saw a guy with a 124 (i think that was it) on his ultra...WOW....that SOB was strong...i wonder with such high power on that engine how much reliability will be....that is a lot...i am not sure though...that bike was hauling a$$...I test drove the 09 and quite frankly i saw a bit of difference but not a lot...In fairness i only rode it for like 10 miles so i would have to ride it farther.

I went from an 07 Ultra to an 09 Ultra (had to lay down the 07 because a young women turned left in front of me). The 07 had Reinhart true duals, AC, and SERT dyno. My 09 is bone stock and it feels stronger off the line than my 07 because of the new gearing. The biggest single benefit, however of the 09 is the way it handles in the twisties with the new frame. When you add features like ABS and a 6-gallon tank, I believe they add more overall riding pleasure than an increase of 7 cubic inches. So if you must have the added power, I'd consider going for an 09/10 with the bigger motor.

Mariner,
You have the 1st year of the 6 speed gearset and the 96" in your '07. They have changed up the gearing to get you out of the hole a bit faster and now have a better frame since '09, with the bigger tank. Other than that, pretty much the same. You are really going to take a hit on trade-in with your '07. If you're happy with the bike except for the power, invest in your own bike. I have built several '07's, bringing them all up to 103 status, some full HQ builds (heads, cams, pistons) others mild 103's with cams. All were very, very happy with the results. They now have a dependable, rideable, tuneable bikes, with bags of power that the 110 can't come close to touch. My .02... keep what you have for a couple more years, and go 103/107....you won't regret it!
