Default RK, SG or Ultra?

Man am I a pain or what? I am convinced it's a mid-life crisis! I/we have narrowed it down to three bikes. All three are gonna serve us well, but which one will serve us better?

1) Road King "Custom"- Really like the low concept and leather bag looks. Would have to add a sissy bar, luggage rack and a wind shield to accomindate the wife.

2) Street Glide- This would be my first choice. I like the instruments and knowing what's going on at all times. The 40-watt AM/FM/WB/CD/MP3 Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon would just be a PLUS! Would still have to add sissy bar and luggage rack.

3) Ultra Classic- Granted I qualify for law enforcment, this would take the cake. Right? Has all the baove and more. However, the versitility will be gone compared to the RK. This would be a full dressed bike and would not be that practiacl riding to and from work. Or would it? Seems to me the bulk of this bike would limit me taking it out for short rides and keeping it stored in the garage. But for the open road, comfort and price, this bike would put me way ahead of the game. Would be able to get this bike OTD under $18k. The other two bikes about the same.

Now for what we plan to do with the bike. Ride locally with our friends each and every weekend. Three day weekends staying in or about a 300 mile round trip range. As for me, would like to do at least one big trip a year with the guys (Sturgis / River Run). So your imput and thoughts would be grately appreciated!

Street Glide, your first choice! It was my first choice too, great all round bagger. Styling, stereo and fairing, tough to beat.

buy an Ultra...lower it an inch

i have a SG...it will fill your bill...i'd love to have a nice RK(with apes)...the Ultra will be just fine for short trips and most probly your best choice, but i'd lower it

have you looked at the RG...i think they're cool

If you are the type that says a vw is better in town and save the cadillac for the road you are not an ULTRA RIDER. If however you want to be comfortable all the time the ULTRA is the only way to go. i wouldnt ride anything else even to the corner store.

Ditto Mack!

I ride mine daily except in the ice and snow. Had mine 11 months and have over 17K miles. Why would anyone by a Harley to look at?

Bang for the buck inculding comfort per mile and the Ultra is the correct choice. That said, everyone has a different style and opinion. You'll be happy no matter which way you go. But for me there's only one choice ;=]

I would get the RK...but I am partial. I think for local crusing it would fill your needs. However, I will probably change my mind in a year or so....

The only experience I have is with Fatboy's (the bike), until recently. I picked up an Ultra last week and have logged a little over 300 miles so far. I don't see myself riding anything else in the future. I like the looks of the RK and was pretty set on a SG until I saw the Ultra and realized that I could make the tour pack detachable for solo riding. My wife went on a 100+ mile ride with me yesterday and is still raving about how comfortable it was. The max for her on the Fatboy was about 50 miles. I would go with the Ultra. Just my $.02.

Test ride all three and then make a decision. Some dealerships will even count your rental fees towards the cost of your purchase.

I would add a Road Glide to your list. There is no describing it....just gotta ride one.

All good points so far. So how easy is it to take the back trunk off ond on? Is it all that wise to be doing? Also regarding lowing the Ultra, about what might that cost? I find it totally amazing what WE will do to a bike to satisfy OUR needs! To each, every bike is different.
