RE: who still runs factory pipes
I think we are up to far more than 11 and climbing like crazy. There are a lot of us out there that like performance and throatyness but not volume.
I just REMOVED RINEHART TRUE DUALS from my '02 Ultra. 105dB [:'(] in the riders position 2200rpm cruise (6 speed). It felt like I had a drummer behind me whacking me in the head with mallets in a nice steady cadence! Since I rack up 35,000 plus miles a year this was not tolerable. Gave me a headache after 20 minutes of riding and the guys I ride with would no longer let me be in front of them. They felt my exhaust hammering in their handlbars!
BUT....I came up with a pretty cool compromise. With a little polished stainless I made an adapter that let me put the STOCK mufflers on the True Dual head pipes. Now I have cool looks and quiet ride....and...it sounded different and a little QUIETER than stock! (so I opened up the baffles just a wee bit...but not so much that I can't hear the whine of the gear drive cams) The True Dual "mufflers" when into the garbage. (FWIW..I ran the bike without the "mufflers" on the pipes and I could not measure any difference in volume. The "mufflers" only seem to take the edge off the upper frequencies.

Just wondering who still runs there factory exhaust and who has louder pipes? I still have the factory ones on mine.
