Default Security system on a bike worth the money?

If you're only getting the minimum security system on an 09, is it worth the money? I understand having the siren is great, but if you're only getting the basic system, is it worth getting or are you just as well getting one without security? What do most of y'all have? Thanks in advance. And before somebody jumps in, I know, I know, a 20K bike and I'm worrying about 300.00? It's a matter of availability at my dealer.

To me, it's extra "Peace of Mind". Like they say, if a thief wants it bad enough, he'll get it. I'm not sure, but if the bike you're looking at doesn't have it, I THINK it can be installed at the dealership. I'm sure somebody who knows for sure will chime in soon. If I found a bike I really liked, I wouldn't let the lack of the security system you're referring to deter me from getting it.

I have the factory HD system on mine. Came with the deal but not factory installed. The dealer put it on. I originally had no siren but remembered I had a take off siren from another HD and it fit right on.

Mostly the system gives me piece of mind. The system will disable the ignition so the bike can't be started. Also, being an Ultra, it's on the heavy side so of course it can be tossed in a truck or something but hopefully they'll have to work at it. The key fob no longer requires you to push any buttons so as you walk away from the bike it automatically arms. Great for going into stores, etc.

The factory HD siren is about $100 but a fair amount of guys are using the radio shack piezo siren at about $7

Siren is pretty much optional but I like it.

Take care,
Dave

When you're on a road trip .... I guess it all depends on how much you enjoy sleeping at night. With it ... you may have a chance to have some real good quality sleep .... Without it ... Well, you don't need to be a rocket surgeon to figure that one out.

You be the judge.
