Security system on a bike worth the money?

Okay, I'm the black sheep in the mob.
I didn't want the security system and didn't get it.
It seemed to me to be another electronic gizmo that could fail. I've always locked my ride when I'm not using it and felt that was good enough security to keep the honest people honest. If the thieves want a bike, it will be gone and chopped for parts before you dial 91....
Also, there are a lot of other models out there that are more desirable for theft than a Dresser.

If you're only getting the minimum security system on an 09, is it worth the money? I understand having the siren is great, but if you're only getting the basic system, is it worth getting or are you just as well getting one without security? What do most of y'all have? Thanks in advance. And before somebody jumps in, I know, I know, a 20K bike and I'm worrying about 300.00? It's a matter of availability at my dealer.

Have had the HD security system on my last 3 bikes, as well as my wife's Sportster. Would not be without it. They work well except it seems with a cell phone on the bike which will cause infrequent squawk of the siren possibly due to some radiated interference. This is seldom a problem though. Only problem I have had was when I used an adusting scenario provided for the 05 bike which actually removed the fobs from the ECM on a 07 bike. I was attemting to adjust the sensor sensitivity, which was available in 05, but seems to be missing from 07 and up. Dealer fixed/restored funtionality. No problems on the 09, except for the previously described rare cell phone interruption.

I did the Radio Shack Piezo siren install in about 10-15 minutes!
Sounds great!
Did my buddies bike too and now a few others want it!
Shoot! for $5.50 you can't beat this mod..
Not super loud but loud enough., Thinking of throwing another one
side by side to increase sound level.
I put mine under the seat but my buddy wanted his right behind the side cover (left side!) and his is louder.
Real easy job guys...
Radio Shack part# 273-079 $5.79

Had the fob on my 07 FLHTC it dumped on me once and I did not have the owners manual with me for the code. A friend stopped and had one then I forgot the code I had entered into the system. I did not want factory default code everybody has that. Six hours later I reset the code and was on my way {glad I was not in BFE}. So when I got my 09 FLHTC I got it with out a security system and bought a set of handcuffs that I use as a disk lock and a red remove before flight flag. Most people when they see the cuffs walk way around the bike. That gives me more peace of mind that the fob ever did. Security system is nice until it dumps on you after it does it once you will never be comfortable with it again.
