Maybe the thought was most folks make these changes anyway but I was hoping to avoid that by getting the extra power/torque by stepping up to the Limited 103 and leaving it stock.
I believe the change was due to EPA requirements. I remember reading that US EPA standards are two years behind CA requirements. So CA bikes got the cats in '08 and now cats are in all the bikes due to US 2010 EPA regs.

Simply put, this comes down to the current EPA standards. Like most other internal combustion engines on the road today they needed to put a catalyst on them. Unfortunately, the catalyst operates from a heat reaction which does not help with a an air cooled engine.

I guess if I were looking for a new bike, picking up a left over 09 49 state bike at a reduced price with some of the incentives dealers are giving looks like the hot ticket for this year.

No big deal. My SERG came with a cat. Bought a core bit and drilled it out. Took about 30 minutes and a lot of sweat. This only gets out half of the material but opens up the exhaust. The preferred way is to take off the exhaust cut it, gut it and re-weld it. T.

Best bet is to buy a older bike and mod the hell out of it with the money saved from not buying a new one.

Im quite sure that the EPA and NOT Harley is the culprit here.

And I can finally say - I'm liking my 08 more as time goes by

could you tell us what you are going to do?Will it lower the temp.?
