Help.... converting Anti Dive on 93 FLHS to 94 FLHR
Hi,
my 93 FLHS front forks went soft during a ride a few days ago.
The forks would not hold air when I attempted to adjust the air
with a Harley pump, so I started down the rabbit hole of repair.
I'm not an experienced mechanic, just a logical guy and I do
work on things.
In checking around, I find that the 'vintage hi tech' electronic
anti-dive control (and the associated air reservoir in the handle bar)
were ditched the next year in the road king, replaced by a couple
of caps, a tee, some flexible tubing and a nice schrader valve just
above the front fork air baffle.
I'd much rather have that (and the lower cost of repair) so I'm
trying to figure out how to get the caps Harley used on the Road
King forks. Flexible tubing, a tee and a schrader valve came easily,
but replacing the banjo bolt with an elbow is a real problem. The
parts catalog has no number for the cap/elbow thing, just a single
number for the "flexible tubing assembly". I guess it's part of a Road
King specific fork and not sold separately?
The banjo bolt I removed is 7/16-20. This is next to impossible to find.
I'm told it's a "standard o-ring boss" size, but since it used a copper
crush washer and an o-ring washer (metal with o-ring inside) I seem
to be having a really hard time fitting this.
Has anyone done this or able to tell me where to find a way to fix this?
Thanks!

My 1990 is still working OK. The number of parts that might have failed you are reasonably cheap to replace. The valve in the handlebar is a standard auto one, there is a small length of rubber pipe and a couple of rubber rings in each fork-leg top. I recently bought a complete set for my bike from my local Harley dealer. There are also a couple of o-rings and some sealing washers with the valve assembly.
Unless you work your way through the whole set-up you are unlikely to cure the original leak you seem to have. Whatever you need in the way of parts, your local H-D dealer should be able to supply them. They should also be able to supply the 1994 parts you mention.
Best of luck sorting it out.
