Helmet Damage
I recently started wearing a helmet. On my last road trip I managed to let my helmet (an HJC AC-3) fall off the bike twice. I have read that a helmet should be tossed if it falls because the internal protection lining is damaged. Is this really true, or is the helmet manufacturer just trying to sell more helmets.

RE: Helmet Damage
this has been debated a billion times on this forum. For a quicker response do a search and you will read everything you ever wanted to know about the subject...
Since I am not an expert of helmet linings and what impact does to them and it makes sense that it could possibly be compromised if it is dropped then I am going to be more safe than sorry.
Past that, I carry my full face around like it is a baby. I pay just as much attention to it as I do when working on my bike or cleaning the bike... Both the bike and the helmet are treated like small children. With lots of care and attention...
Just my 2 cents...

RE: Helmet Damage
From what I've heard the shock absorbing qualities of the material is a one-time deal. I have always heard a drop from waist-high or higher would do the helmet in. But I can't confirm it....just what I've read/heard. IMO my head is worth the extra money for a new helmet.

What those guys say is true....potential compromise if fall is waist high or higher. I have learned to place my helmet on the ground if I am stopped somewhere to eat or whatever. Or I might lock it up on the engine guard.
If you have a helmet that is 4 years old, start checking the hardness of the EPS liner. If it is like a rock, cut the straps off of it, smack it with a hammer a few times and trash it.

Not true. If you have the resources to do it, have someone x-ray the helmet. Inspect x-rays for cracks or imperfections. If you find none, then ride on. Use the $$$ to buy some goodies.
