Default '09 shocks on an '05

Has anyone put a set of new '09 rear shocks on an older bike?

I've heard that they are a new design and handle the bumps much better, is that true?

Would an oil change on the '05 shocks yield the same improvements?

Looking to see if it's worth it to get a pair and try it out.

Dawg would be the one to tell you but I just asked a friend who works as a HD parts guy and has an 09 and he said you cannot because the valving in the shocks is different. Even the air shock aftermarket folks had to come up with a new shock for the 09s

All right Brad...............where are you?

I thought I had read on here that someone had put '09 shocks on their bikes and it worked great and rode smoother.

Sounds good, I'll PM you.

I'd like to get a few more responses here from people who have done this for some real world feedback.

this is an interesting thread. was the change made in 09 to better shocks, meaning that 09 shocks would be better even on an 08?
