Post 04 road king custom breaks

Hi! I'm new to the HD family and just recently purchase my 04 road king custom bike. The quetion that I have about breaks is that while riding I keep hearing this grounding noise coming from the front and back breaks. I ask a freind that owns a HD and he told me that from 2002 to 2007 or 08 this model has that problem and maibe the only solution is to change the calipper from the pads?? Any toughts on this subjet from you guys. Will really apreciated the input.

what's the conditon of your brake pads? and second, those road king customs are cool indeed. i got a friend who has an 03 anniversary, and it rocks. it's been very dependable for him. there were no inherent braking system flaws in the 02 to 07 models. in 08 they did, however upgrade to the brembo calipers, which i like. but yours were designed quite well to perform correctly for your bike. the first place to check is the brake pads. good riding and have fun. by the way, welcome to the forum.

Might be a good idea to take off the calipers and clean them up a bit, check the pads and replace if needed. Sometimes the brake dust will build up and not allow the pistons to retract all the way and it will keep the pads slightly presses against the rotor.

I agree with Maineultraclassic, Your brake pistons need cleaned. I would inspect your brake pads. Your bike is 5 years old now. Stock brake pads are noisy to begin with let alone if they are hanging up. I put on lyndel racing pads to elimanate the noise. By the way, I have the same year and make of bike, And still love it. Was thinking of trading to a streetglide but just can't get part with my old girl. congrats.

Brake pads aren't real expensive and are somewhat easy to change. Buy a service manual just to make sure you're doing it right. Your friend said to change the caliper and the pads. I doubt you'll need to go so far as changing the calipers. They're probably alright. New pads could make quite a bit of difference, though.
