I'm more concerned with Harley just hunkering down and surviving for the long haul than I am with any new models right now.

Harleys' recent history suggests that they are more interested in stealing market share from the competition than hunkering down and surviving. I seem to recall they introduced more new models in 2009 and 2010 than ever before, right?

The current promotion "competitive trade in" indicates that is the direction they are going (IMO).

Also the developement cycle they use in R&D is long enough that I really doubt they'll be any significant changes because of a couple of down years. Maybe a few years down the road, but I just don't see them getting cautious when there is market share to be taken.

I think it is more likely that the competition will continue to slow their developement cycles down and maybe even consider exiting some of their fringe businesses (like Honda motorcycles for example).

Remember "Screw it, Lets ride"?

thats the thing right there. as you say, you've been able to get a new bike every year for a bunch of years, so to you, there is nothing new for 2010. but for the new harley rider, there is a bunch of 'new' models this year.

personally, i think they did pretty good.

All I can say is too am looking forward to seeing the RG Ultra in all it's glory. I have mine close, but it would stilll cost too much to make it a real Ultra. Plus I really want to see what colors it might come in.

Was planning on buying myself a 2011 Ultra for my 60th birthday present. With Harley transitioning to the "New Harley Davidson" I'm going to wait and see. Downsizing the company and outsourcing portions of the previously in-house manufacturing proceess could be positive or negative.
