If you really want to stay in your budget, cams and head work and bump the compression slightly with a different gasket, should do the trick nicely as well if you decide after it still isnt enough then go BB and you already have the cams you need and headwork is done.
I just installed Andrews 21G geared cams on my '05. Runs cooler, stronger, LOTS more torque on the low end. If you're keeping the bike for the long haul, I think the geared cams are a great investment.
If you were doing the work yourself, you could get a lot more done for less money.
I have about $1800 in parts into my stage 3 95" motor that includes gear drive cams, head work, big bore, pushrods, throttle body, and all new gaskets. I did all the work myself in order to save a ton of money and learn about the bike at the same time.
Best bang for the buck for a bit more power would be a set of cams and pushrods.
hey guys....thanks for all the input. based on what all said - sounds like cams would be a very good option. i can afford to do a big bore kit....i am just concerned about realibility on the road. i plan to do this upgrade in the fall.
i am trying to decide between the tw-21 and the screamin eagle 255's. i'll get it figured out, but till then it's riding weather, so screw it till it gets too cold to ride. by the way, there are tons of 88's that are now 95's with a long history of success as far as reliability.
