It is so much easier changing fork oil with the air system and a vacuum pump

This is old tech, most people put to much air in their forks and blow the seals out. I had
air forks my 750 Honda back in the 70's, and a few dirt bikes also. Air forks work good with
low air pressure to stop bottoming out along with your regular suspension components.
All the after market people out there have many years of making great suspension kits and
can make any Bike ride better than stock. That being said, start out at low air pressure,
like about 5 PSI. and go up a few pounds at a time, every time you check your air pressure
you will lose some of the air in the forks knowing the exact PSI. in the forks is a guest.

Crikey, there is some nonsense in here about the air forks! However I agree there is no benefit in going back to the earlier and mediocre damping they had. An economical upgrade for our pre-2014 forks is fabrik8r's tuned Intiminators with new springs, alternatively one of the cartridge insert kits. The ultimate however is a set of HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal's 49mm forks and trees, with Ohlins fully adjustable cartridges.
