Unhappy Price of custom paint

I have been looking around for a creative custom painter, as I want to do something to my Ultra. I stumbled upon Cutting Edge Illusions (just add a .com to see their website). Really interesting stuff....very "deep" website.

When wrote them about price range, this was the response:

"The broad range for painting a bike the size of an Ultra is $4,351-$8,250--really depending on what you are looking for. The $4,300 mark is for a solid/kandy. In the next price point at $5,865 you will see two tones and blends such as Shift http://www.cuttingedgeillusions.com/...sets.php?s=456 . Keep in mind you can use any color combo you wish. The higher prices are for jobs with more artwork, detail, airbrushing, layout etc... Let me know if there are any specific ones you like or want to discuss. I look forward to talking with you soon. "

I know there are a lot of surfaces to an Ultra....Front Fairing, 2 Lowers, Tank, 2 Side Covers, 2 Bags 2/Lids, TourPak w/Lid.....I also know "you get what you pay for".... but doesn't that sound a little steep? I know it's more than I have to spend!!!!!

I am painting my bike now, 2 colors, 3 stage pearl colors. I have spent over $1500 on materials already and the final clear to buy which is around $400 per gal. I could not tell you the hours I've spent in striping / sanding / etc. I will have a really good paint job but no fancy artwork. I always thought these guys wanting $5K + for paint jobs were too high but after my experiece it really is a deal.

I know the prices do seem steep for a bike, but i have heard 3-5k for a decent paint job is reasonable. Some people are paying 10k for a nice car paint job?????
My son is going to tech school for paint & autobody right now. I am trying to stress to him the importance of perfecting his craft. There is def. GOOD money to be made painting.

When it comes to paint jobs you can spend what you want.
Head down to Wally World and pick up some rattle cans. Paint the whole thing for $5.
Do some prep work and that's going up to $10.

I'd guess 1k-2k for an "average" professional paint job.

5k to 10k is not unbelieveable for a High End (Show Quality) paint job.

I found a guy and he did my bike with ghost flames for around 2k and i have no complaints..He was not into bikes when he did mine, but since he did mine he has done three more.

So there are guys out there that will do good paint jobs for less than 5k.
