We tried the brake lights when we looked at the bike. The bottom fender tip does not function as brake lights if i remember correctly, only the blinker lights (now with red lenses) act as both tail light and brake lights. The fender tip is just a running light.

Thats one of the reasons I added a tour pack and L.E.D. spoiler to my bike. More visibility and more brake lights. That equates to more reaction time to drivers behind you.
