Highway 1 between Regina and Winnipeg is about the most boring stretch of highway in the country.

This, if you don't mind taking a secondary road, is an alternative. Road is in good shape - 2 lane blacktop. It adds about 2-3 hours to the drive compared to taking the #1 highway. Much more scenic than going in a straight line.

However, if you want to put the miles behind you as fast as possible, the trans canada is the way to go.

You won't run into any problems with your American plates around here.

Once you get about 60 miles east of Winnipeg, scenery gets quite good again. Watch for Moose. Starting at Thunder Bay around the north route along Lake Superior is great.

Driving in the city of Montreal's a wild ride. Use a GPS in Montreal if you got it.

Plan on 91 or 93 octane being $4/ gallon. You'll be fine for high octane along the main drag, but have some octane booster for the really rural gas stations. I wouldn't recommend getting the premium gas even if they offer it at the gas stations in the middle of nowhere. Probably been sitting in the tank for some time.
