Default Seats - Mustang vs. Ultimate

Do any of you have an Ultimate seat setup on your bike? I'm trying to decide whether to try their seat or stick with Mustang. I know the Mustang Regal Touring Seat is a good one, but would like the versatility of a 2-piece with rider backrest, and Mustang's Solo with pillion doesn't cut it for my wife/passenger. I sat on Ultimate at their booth at a rally and it felt good and I liked the looks, but would like some input from from actual users over the long haul. Pretty pricey too, and I haven't found any discount sellers for Ultimate.

I tried the Ultimate seat. Very good looking. Bad news was it was worse than the stock seat. I tested it on a 300+ mile ride, and at 135 miles my butt was aching. Also, it sat taller than the stock seat. It might work for some, but it didn't work at all for me. At least they doo have a return policy so I sent it back. An $80 test ride that didn't work out.

Never heard of Ultimate. Looked them up www.ultimateseats.ca That is one ugly seat! I vote for Mustang.

I had one on a VTX 1800. Best seat I've ever riden, at least it was on that bike. Thought about trying one on the SG, but right now I'm pretty happy with the Sundowner.

This seat business is rather tricky. I have tried some that others like and I did not. Seems like the only way you can figure it out is spend an asspocket full of money or get lucky enough to find someone that will let you borrow their seat or their bike. T.

A buddy and I both ordered the Mustang Touring seat w/ backrest. We both sold them after a while. For me, anything over 300 miles was very bad with the Mustang. The stock seat on my old Suzuki C 50 did much better. To each his own though. Right now I use the stock seat on my 07 FLHTC with a Mustang backrest and its doing ok.

I’ll add to the confusion. I have purchased the sundowner and Corbin seats and tried them for months. Found I just didn’t care for them. Never got really comfortable. Finally settled on the Mustang with backrest and love it. Seats are really a personal preference item.

I had an ultimate on a VTX1800 and it was like riding around on my easy chair. But to me the seat is ugly. Give and take, I guess. I'll have to admit that I'm a little to vain to put one on my streetglide. But, it was the most comfortable seat/motorcycle setup I've ever had.

I have a 2008 SG and sent my stock seat to a company that is mentioned on this board quite often and then sent it back twice. The best I can do with it is 50 miles. I tried a Sundowner and it was marginally better.

I have an Ultimate now and I can do 250 miles before my butt starts bothering me. I just came back from riding 4,501 miles in three weeks; the last 4 days were all 375+ days. I was glad to get off at the end of the day but I would have been in tears on the stock seat.

I'll ad this about the mustang: I see alot of people say "After all I heard about the mustang, I couldn't ride it more than a couple hundred miles. Sold it first chance I got." I would have been in this category too. When I first got it, it was hard, didn't like the vynol and I was hating it. I bought and airhawk cushion, becaue I didn't want to keep spending money on seats. Got used to the airhawk (which really helped, btw) and took off on a long 4500 mile trip. About half way through the trip I decided to store the Airhawk and give the seat a go again. Well, I guess it broke in because this has turned out to be quite a comfortable seat. Don't use my Airhawk at all anymore and I'm very happy with my Mustang now. It's my understanding (now) that you have to let them break in for 1k-2000 miles.
