rear shocks suck, if u are 2 up and not running at least 40 pounds you bottom out...the front forks bang when u hit bumps. why have 0 to 50 pounds in the air shocks if they are only good at 50 pounds? 08 much better. the 09 touring bikes are not what everyone is bragging about...very dissapointed. rather have my 08 back.
You should have no problem finding 08 shocks to swap out. As far as the front springs go, it's the same with all harleys. Just drop in some new springs. I have noticed the twin cities freeways are really bumpy since all our road taxes now go towards that fancy crime rail, er, I mean light rail.
Over on another site a rider had the EXACT same problem. He took it in and they found that one of the air lines to the shock had a kink in it preventing air from charging the shock. It might be worth a look.
Run about 35lbs here no bottoming problems, ride most of the time two up and the wife and I combined are about 330 lbs and have about 10 pounds in th bags. Sometimes run 40-45 pounds when I ride hard on a twisty road.
stop picking up FAT CHICKS!!! jk,, I haven't had a problem and I am on SG run about 30-40 lbs, wife and I are about 350 combined (I am a little big) plus I put a road 6 custom lowering kit on it a dropped it about 2 more inches. I would definently get it checked.
When I picked my bike up I had the same problem. I checked the shocks and they only had 10 lbs in them. Checked the book, my weight, baggage etc. Put in what the book recommended and have had no more problems. If I were riding 2 up I would need 50 lbs which is the maximum. Read somewhere in a bike magazine that the new frame geometry that makes it handle better results in a slightly harsher ride. I don't have a clue as to why, and can't remember where I read that.
Huhhh ??
I run 35psi in my rears, I'm 250lbs and carry a residual 25lbs of gear and have not bottomed out yet. I have hit some nasty bumps. Stock tires with 36ft 40rr psi.
I run 45 PSI, wife and I combined weight, ahhhh 450lbs, plus packed with a luggage rack and we never bottomed out on our 4000 mile trip. If you hit a 12" deep pothole, nothing is going to help, but I have no problems with 45psi two up or solo and it handles much better than my 03 RKC.
Yeah, My shocks sucks. My lady and I combined at 475 lbs together as we've bottomed out at the end of riding day. Always pump 40 PSI before we begin our trek. Maybe I should try out 50 and see what happens. Will have it checked out next Thursday's service.
