If you'll download the instruction sheets on the HD website you'll see that coolers for '99-'07 (two different part numbers) have the hoses on the same side, but newer models (two more part numbers) are on opposite sides. They are apparently using a photo of the older cooler on their site.

Same thing here on my 09...I did it last year but from what I remember, the only way it went on was that a part of it covered the opening
