Default Road King Custom (FLHRS) bars

If you can set on a stock Road King Custom (FLHRS) I think you may like those beach bars. They quit making this bike after the 07 model year but I would think you could still get these bars from the dealer. They are one of the main reasons I purchased my 06. I love the way these bars feel. My arms are in a very relaxed position. It seems like the bars are more of an extension of my arm rather then something I have to hang on to. At the end of 700 mile day, my arms and wrists are never complaining. I wish I could say the same for other parts of the anatomy.

Apes are surprisingly comfortable. Most folks that have them love them.

on my old classic i went with a standard earley 90"s stock bar. it was a litte narrower and taller that saved me the expense of new cables and wires. and it let me roll em back with a good wrist angle. one measurment they cant give u is the wrist angle some of the reduced reach harley bars have horrible angles they turn your hands outwards.

Get some pull back risers, it would be easier. Also, when you pull those bars back, you may have to replace brake line and/or clutch cable.

they now have "new for '09 Heritage bars" for Road Kings. They have a little more pullback that previous versions

See if your dealer has a set of "police bars"#56569-86. Very comfy. Figured they were made for someone who was on the bike for 8 hrs a day, they had to be alright. I went with these over the Heritage bars. No new cables needed.
The RK Custom bars were the best, but they're bigger than the stockers, so the swapout was going to be pricey.

I agree with swlamedic. You don't need handlebars --- just get pull-back risers. Couple years ago, I was debating RK Classic or Yamaha Stratoliner. Had the same problem when I rode my buddy's RK. Decided on the Stratoliner. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I felt like I had to reach too far forward to be comfortable --- just like the Road King. Kept the same handlebars & had pullback risers put on. It was only less than 2". 1.75" didn't sound like much, but that's all it took. It was perfect. I'm 5' 10".

(By the way, traded the Stratoliner in May, for an 09 EG Classic!)

You really need to be looking at the aftermarket to get a good fittng set of bars.

I had the same problem with my 07 road king. I wound up putting the "reduced reach" bars on mine. It was a dramatic improvement and much more comfortable than the stock bars. The only problem was that with those bars the wiring goes internal, which for me opened a new can of worms and problems. I would try the heritage bars first due to the fact that it's a very simple swap out.
