Default Cruise Control

Hey All.. Anyone else ever have a problem with the electronic cruise control? Was coming home from a 2k ride and set the cruise at 75MPH and about 5 minutes later the bike went to 85MPH by itself...I turned the Cruise off and on and reset; then i could not get the cruise to stay on for more than 5 minutes w/o turning it on and off.... So i took the bike in to the shop when i got back w/o using the cruise the rest of the ride home. They replaced the switch and its working like before (no problems). The thing that scared the crap out of me is the rapid accelaration w/o my request.. anyone else experienced this?

I have an '03 FLHRC/I (Road King) and I've had the same thing happen a couple times. I suspected that it was just a dirty contact in the switch or mild corrosion from washing the bike or riding in the rain. I still don't know for sure what caused it. It would also just turn off by itself occasionally.

My fix was to spray electronic contact cleaner into the housing while operating the rocker switches (make sure there is no power to the switch, it's highly flammable!), and that seems to work for a while.

Make sure you use a good quality contact cleaner and make sure it is a "Plastic Safe" quick drying formula.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but it worked for me.

I had the same thing happen but for a different reason. My speed sensor went bad.
