Seeing fewer riders this year
Hi All
I live one mile off HW 66, so we are use to hundreds of riders passing thruogh. But this year everyone has notice that there are a lot few riders this year then in the past. I've even noticed fewer riders going to work. My neighbor who likes to buy and sell motorcycles says the number of for sale ads is about a third of what he saw last year. I know the economy is an issue, but I would have thought that would have motivated more folks to ride their bikes and save on gas.
I don't know, just an observation.

With The Big Ride coming up in just 2 weeks, I'm going to agree with you, beary. In previous years, we would already have a lot of bike traffic on I540. This year, I haven't really seen very many people loaded for touring at all.
I'm going to predict a significantly smaller Sturgis this year, but a good one, better than 2 years ago when the theme was "Screw The Bikers." This year, I predict, the participants will be more hard-core and less RUB. I am hopeing that some competition for the smaller pie will result in lower prices, but that's perhaps hopeing for too much.
Any vendors have any input? I think it starts with what the vendors experience. If they are getting screwed, like having to pay $3500 for 50 sq ft of alley for a week, that flows downhill to the participants. How many lemons do you have to squeeze for $3500? And that just covers the floor space.
