My heel shifter came off too, luckily I heard it hit the ground..did a u-turn..and there it was lying in the middle of the road ..I decided to leave it off.
here is the fix i used. so now along with zip-ties,epoxy putty, and other misc stuff...rubber bands are now in there.
It got me home...thats all that mattered.
Yep, started a thread on Monday about the same issue. Lost my heel shifter while riding on Sunday. Never found it. Had to resort to toe shifting again. Tuesday....I installed the H-D billet shifters and made sure to use Loctitie. From now on, the screws will be checked at regular intervals.
My heel shifter fell off also --- 09 EG Classic. Turned out that the dealer just didn't push it on all the way & tighten it up. (When the mechanic rode it out to me the day I picked it up, he asked if I wanted them lower & closer to floorboards. I said, sure, as long as I'm right here.) I turned around, and went back & found it. Tighten things up! I know a guy that swears that a little motor oil on the threads is better than LocTite.
I was taught in high school to put a dab of oil on lug nuts. I guess it lets the threads skip easier for tightening. But would it not allow for threads to allow easier loosening?
I kept hearing a ping at speed and thought, "Oh no, here we go with the engine ping thing." But after further investigation it was my shifter which was loose.
Sometimes parts fall off Harleys, they do vibrate a bit.
It happened to me too, never found the shifter. Bought one cheap off 'Craigslist', loctite it and put a nut with a nylon lock on the the threads that hang out the bottom. Not noticeable and end of the story!
