I started wearing them a couple of years ago and wear them all the time. If I start to leave on the bike and forget to put them in I can tell it immediately. They are great and you can still hear the music just fine.

I was reading a lot on this forum about how riders couldn't hear the stereo speakers above 60 mph on the SG, so they were spending a lot of money to upgrade the system. Reading that, I was holding some money back to upgrade my system when I got my 09 SG. Once I got the bike, I didn't understand what they were talking about because I can hear my speakers pretty good 80mph at 2/3 volume. Then I went for a ride Without my Full Face Helmet. I don't even wear the face sheild on my helmet and I still can hear my speakers at 80mph with a helmet better than I could at 45mph without it. Not suggesting a Full Face helmet is the best stereo upgrade, but I would start there if you wear a helmet. Also an 8 inch windshield on your SG will make a world of difference as well.

Half helmuts and stock SG windshields don't mix. The wind rushes thru the ear holes. Ear plugs and an 8 inch windshield should do the trick nicely.

I also suggest some ear plugs. I normally only wear them when out of the city but they are worth the effort.

A pr. of nice Bose in ear head phones works well also. Makes your tunes sound great at lower volume and keeps the wind out. Not cheap but the tunes sound freakin sweeeet!! I just run them through my ipod I keep in my pocket.

I use ear plugs, 3/4 and full face helmuts just add an echo to the noise..
The skin color Hearos brand are the most comfortable but don't work for firearms protection..

I use to wear ear plugs when riding my sporty as the wind noise was pretty bad at highway speeds.

BUT, for my FLHTC, I don't need them...

While more money, you may want to get a bigger windshield. I run an 8" and it is nice and quiet behind it. The larger w/s also has additional benefits... like no rocks/bugs.

I use earplugs with my half helmet. Cuts the wind noise down a ton. I can still hear traffic and pipes and my ears don't ring at the end of the ride.

Big Ears molded ear plugs are the answer, I got a set at the bike show in Vegas and they are great, they stop all the bad noise including shooting guns but you can still hear close to normal volume conversation.

Glad to see many peeps where ear plugs , i hardly ever see people wearing them.

I wear them on long rides , if i dont i will have a ear and head ache from hell and feel tired.
