Default 517s installed

If it would stop raining I could try them out, but in the sitting position they feel real good. I also had the mini tach and Avon grips installed. Indy couldn't use stock cables/wires, had to go additional 4", only the clutch cable would work. Cost an extra $175 as a result. I emailed WO to let them know despite their claim the stock stuff works it didn't in my case. I hear people talking about "rerouting" the cables to make them fit, whatever that means. WO also said rerouting is how you make them fit. I asked them to explain it, but they haven't responded back yet.

I think I'm going to really like the 517s

I'm looking at a set of 502's (12.5 rise) on my 2011 RK. I'm curious as to where everyone gets their cable/wire extensions? I'm about an hour from Namz in King of Prussia, PA so a trip there fir the TBW extension is in order. Is anyone extending the other wiring as well? (turn signals, horn, lights, etc) or is that wiring long enough? Also where is a good place for brake/clutch extensions?

Thanks

Dave

My new 517's are on, sorry no pics yet as it IS SNOWING IT"S AZZ OFF!! WTF, it was 80 five days ago!

Bars feel good but the wiring just barely extends through the port and I am thinking I will need to do a solder splice to extend them correctly, which means the bars come back off in the near term; also need a ride to determine how the angle set up and if I need to change it. 518's are not yet history but close.

HD Fat Bar, surprised many more don't use this great bar, comparable to the 518.

Well I got it out even with some snow still on the cars but off the street, bars felt great; and before said, yeah the bike is filthy but hey I am riding it!! I found the grips are more batwing protected now, the control for me a little more positive and the position, well I am working on that but it did feel good here.

photos of 518's and the new 517's.

This is a fantastic sticky. The OP hit everything I'm having problems with. I have the stock bars on my bike and have been looking at Wild 1 bars for some time. I have bad rotor cuffs already and the bars just exacerbate the pain in my shoulders and elbows. Plus the rhomboid for a trifecta.

I'm 6'1, 35 sleeve and 32 inseam. If I lean back in against the back rest, my shoulders feel like they are pulling out of the sockets. I've never like apes, but it seems a likely solution because of being higher and pull back.

I've ridden an 83 GW for years and have no problems with any of those parts. I just hate to think of buying bars and then I don't like the feel. I could pop over to Lebanon and check out the HD dealer Doc went to. The 12.5's seem like they might do the trick.

This is one of the most detailed descriptions for a particular set of bars (hell, any bars) that I've been trying to get data to make a decision. Thanks to all!!

I am 6'2" with a 36" reach and 33" inseam, the 517's did just right by my bursitis and arthritic shoulders. The Mustang 2 piece seat set me in a good position for general comfort and the bars set my arms at a good comfort state. I did have 518's on it for quite awhile, they too were good on the shoulders as opposed to stock.

This is a great source for the knowledge I lacked when trying to make my 2009 RKC fit me. Strongly urge that all future postings include year/model of bike, current seat, current bars, person's height, inseam, sleeve length, complaint they are trying to remedy so we can relate. What works for a tall person will not work for a short person with everything else being equal.

Just saying...
