Default anyone had their seat retention bolt break?

I installed my new radio today and was running the ipod cable to the bag, when I took the seat screw out the frigging nut broke. It must have been split already but when I took it out the retention nut fell to the ground. I looked in the service manual shouldnt be too hard to fix with a new nut and a long tie wrap just wondering if I am the only jerk to have all this stuff happen?

It hasn't happened to me, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

I take it that you have decided to tackle it yourself instead of going back to the dealer?

I called my friendly parts man @ boston harley and he told me it was a commonly sold item and relatively easy to do. My service manual shows a tie wrap used to get the nut in place shouldnt be too bad.

Use the thumb screw kit after you put the retention bolt in.

Easy to do with the tie wrap. Did this a few years back when I put a Mustang seat on my XL.

Yip, not at all impressed with that bit of design. Really bugs me how many STUPID design errors there are on my bike, and it is not even a money saving issue! No idea why they can't have a welded nut inside the rear fender, I cannot believe that would cost them a penny more

All fixed. It was actually very easy with a long tie wrap. I also did install the HD thumbscrew.
