2009 ULTRA Stereo has low volume
#13
The AVC setting will determine how fast the volume will ramp up at a given speed. With the AVC at max, the volume is increasing to it's maximum allowed output at a much lower speed than if you were to set it to half. If at idle the unit is already at a very high volume, the AVC will have little effect. The unit has an anti clipping circuit that will not allow the volume to increase to a point where the audio clipps.
So here is what happens:
1-AVC is set to max
2-At idle, radio volume is set high
3-At 75 MPH, unit is preceived not to be loud enough, so you increase the volume
4-The AVC has alredy maxed out the volume, so it will appear that the volume control has no effect
The radio is actually working as it should. If you're running the stock Harley speakers, there is very little chance the volume at speed will be aceptable.
Intercom being on will not affect the overall volume of the unit. VOX being set high may cause an audio cut out condition, but again, no effect on overall output.

Best thing I ever did for my sound system was Hogtunes replacement speakers, lower fairing speakers and an amp. Plenty loud at 80+ mph now, even with my loudish exhaust.

Speakers...no doubt. Plenty of opinions and advice here on which ones. Ask around. All the aftermarket speakers mentioned here work well and are a great improvement over the stock.....good luck
