Default jiffy stand spring

Yesterday my jiffy stand spring came unhooked. Luckily, a friendly motorist stopped to help me. I could not get off the bike, but he saw that the spring was hanging from underneath the bike. He hooked the spring back for me.

The jiffy stand now is hanging 3 inches or so.

I am thinking that I just need a new spring?

Are they hard to change? Instructions on how to change one would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Get a new spring from your dealer, then go to the bank and get yourself a roll of nickels. When you start to install it you will see the use & need for the nickels.

I would replace it. With the stand in the upright position, a pair of long needle nose will get the job done. Hook it on the stand, and then around the **** and you're done.

I had a spring fall off a 07 SB going 60.
The stand fell to the ground and made a heck of noise.
I had no idea what happened until I pulled over.
Another rider had a cord that I used until I made it to a dealer the next day.
Always carry a cord with me now.

Of course the dealer said mine was the first one ever.

easiest way to replace is to take the nut and locker off the top of the stand. remove the stand. hook the spring in the frame and the stand then angle the stand into the bracket and lever the stand right into the bracket. piece of cake. no tugging, pulling, cussing trying to install using pliers and such.

On long rides I always carry a spare Jiffy Stand spring with me...just in case! Beats having to mess with it when you're out on the road.

+2, Thats cake with ice cream just as long as you have a way to support the bike while you are doing it. A wife, friend or even a jack will do the trick.

Five of us heading up to Sturgis at the end of the month and at least one of us will have a spare spring and a 1/2" wrench. 2 minute fix on the side of the road.
