Default Riding in PennsylvaniA-advice

We are riding through PA in July- towns and villages to see and visit. We are stopping in York, and Gettysburg for sure, overnight.

Coming down from NY. any recommended overnight stays in Scranton? Wilkes-Barre- Stroudsburg (that may be too far for us ..or east stroudsburg or surrounding areas, as well as places west and towards |Harrisburg? Also stopping at Hannums in Chadds Ford- is it worth going through DE? We just have a few days..and just trying to plan a route with a few overnights in some nice scenic towns..
any thoughts are welcome..INCLUDING hotels or motels to stay at..!!
thanks
andrew

My son went to York College in Penn.....there is a decent hotel near the the Harley plant....5 minutes away called 4 Points Sheraton.
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/fourpo..._102908_NAD_FM

..and on the corner of the hotel is a diner called Round The Clock Diner when you want to fill your belly and alot of restaurants and bars in the area....
AND...2 blocks down from the hotel is a harley dealer........so if you are going to stay in York...that is where I stay

those were the reasons I stayed the..the reason my wife likes that location is because there is a Dunkin Donuts nearby also LOL

Not sure what you're into, but there is a great amusement park in that area, Knoebels. Like stepping back in time to the 1950s. Was family owned until recently. THey buy up old rides and restore them, can pay per ride etc. Great coasters. Just a nice change from the Disneyworlds etc. There's also the Yingling brewery in nearby Pottsville. Oldest in the US i think. Also, I forget the name of the town, but it's been on the news. Abandoned mining town where the ground is on fire underneath. Also a tour of an old coal mine which was more interesting than it sounds. You get to see how some of our grandfathers earned a living -- sucked! Dont remember names of those last two but the internet is a wonderful thing.

Do yourself a BIG Favor (flavor) and find one of the Isaac's restaurants and have yourself a great lunch! Found this small chain recently and they make the absolute BEST Sanswich type lunches you'll ever eat.

Make sure you travel on route 6 (the grand canyon of Pennsylvania). The scenery is awesome and there are some good lookouts. Have fun and be safe.

Stay AWAY from New Hope if you have other than stock mufflers.
Nice places to eat and shop. Lots of bikes and the cops are listening

Jim Thorpe is a cool little town. Nice scenery, little shops, old historic buildings, train rides, etc.

If you end up going west on Rt 80 and end up near Clearfield, don't miss Denny's Beer Barrel Inn. Great burgers/food, Great people. Check it out.

PA is one of my favorit states to ride.
We've done a lot of miles through there. From Philly to the Pitsburg. NY to Ohio etc....

The one thing I'd say is watch out for deer living and dead.

We went to Shanksvill a few years ago (were one of the planes went down on 9/11)

I lost count of the deer (and other critters) lying on the side of the road that trip

Where to start…

One of my all time favorite rides is through Bloomsburg then take 42 to 61. That will take you past Knoebels (+ 1 on this place… it’s in Elysburg, PA and is a total throw-back… not to mention it’s free admission/parking), through Pottsville (home of Yuengling brewery… another great tour), not to mention a bunch of amazing scenery going through the mountains, and some great little coal-cracker towns such as Ashland and Frackville (also Centralia, which is home to a major underground mine fire). Don’t forget to stop at Schaeffers Harley-Davidson in Orwigsburg… great bunch of people.

From Orwigsburg you can continue on 61 for another 15-20 miles and catch 78, which will take you to 81, which will take you to Gettysburg.
Enjoy!
