I am relativly new to going longer distances, so I will lead with my best.

The4thgearkids best touring tip.....
Five days before a long trip, do a colon cleanse. This will help you last longer for many reasons.

4thgearkid. I'd say don't worry about your colon. You also might find that 5th and 6th gears come in mighty handy.

Riteway, that is the thing since I have owned this touring bike. With the fat boy it was a couple of mountian dews and step on it. Now it is cruise and look around.

Get a rider backrest and some good highway pegs. It might sound stupid, but a drink holder for a bottle of water is a must in the summer. I've found that I dehydrate way faster than I ever thought possible. I stay much sharper mentally when I keep my water intake high.

Drink lots of water/gatorade/ powerade.
Make sure you're comfortable on the bike ( highway pegs help alot )
MP3 player with lots of tunes
When you stop for gas, take a few extra minutes to walk around and stretch your legs
Eat light when on the road ( granola bars work for me )
Sunscreen
If you're not wearing a helmet, wear a comfy hat ( baseball cap, tilley hat etc )

Take lots of pictures and write down details of your trip. Makes for good reading on rainy days or during the winter.

Don't forget to have fun.

DO NOT OVER PREPARE. If you break down its just a way to meet new people and borrow their tools.

Bliss is having no destination and being in a massive hurry to get there.
