1.)Eat when you're hungry.
2.)Rest when you're tired.
3.)Give yourself plenty of time.
4.)Take credit cards.
5.)Enjoy the ride.

I usually do this right after she cleanses my colon.

Bring a cover for your bike. It keeps the rain and electric gremlins away, also keeps thiefs away!

I cover my body the first thing every morning with Mennen bath talc. From head to toe in warm or hot weather. It makes a lot of difference in the comfort level of my riding day!!!

Always be expecting an animal or human to dart out in front of you.

So days I ride 500 miles, some days 200 miles,
Relax, plan the next day ride at night over a beer, and don't push it,
After the first couple of days you figure out how far you can or want to go the next day. You rush..... you miss the sights

HOG Roadside Assistance (upgrade for $20 and get unlimited towing)
Pack a spare key
Lots of maps
Flat fixer kit or one of those bottles of tire repair goop
Cell phone!
If you need to do laundry, pack a roll of quarters and pre-measured ziplock bags of detergent.
Don't over pack, leave room for the inevitable t-shirts, souvenirs, etc.
Make sure your bike is ready: Tires good? Oil fresh?
On the road at 7AM of by 5PM means you can almost always find a motel room
