Default Throttle by Wire RPM WAS Messed Up - PROBLEM SOLVED

My buddy has a 3 month old 09 Street Glide with the idle bouncing around all over the place.

He takes it to the dealer and while he watched, the service tech powers the ignition on and off 5 times and the problem clears. Problem solved

The service tech tells him that he probably threw the computer off by hitting the kill switch with the throttle revved up,, and by turning the ignition switch on and off, it resets the ECM.

He suggested that the kill switch not be used to turn the bike off and to use the ignition so that his hand is not on the throttle. IS THIS FOR REAL????

How much would you have to rev the RPMS to throw it off? Has anyone experienced this?

Yep, it's for real. There was a tech bulletin on the fix that came out for the 08's when TBW first appeared.

I'm kinda getting use to it. Usually pull right into the garage and shut it down with the kill switch. Next mourning I just cycle the swich before I start it.

DAWG, I knew you were on it, someday we're going to throw you a party. Funny that I never experienced this on my 08.

Anyone have the link to this tech bulletin? I wouldn't mind reading it and having a copy. Also, do you cycle the ignition switch on and off with the engine button (kill switch) in the off or run position?

This is bad advice from a safety perspective. You should always turn your bikes off using the kill switch. You want that habit ingrained so that someday when you need to kill the engine NOW you will just nail the switch with your hands on the bar where they belong. Just make sure you aren't rotating the throttle when you routinely kill it. Should be pretty simple to do that if you concentrate on it a few times.
