03RK - so no tach, but...
For cruising I use 5th from 45 on up.
For passing it depends on the amount of room, the winds, current speed, ect. But the 03RK really likes 70+ in 3rd, 80+ in 4th and 100+ in 5th.
I really like the autometer combo. But the cost puts it a bit lower on my priority list.

With a stage one (air cleaner upgrade) you can easilly raise that wall to 6500 or a touch higher, and instantly add a few horses too.

i didn't read that as having to stay in that rpm range all the time but that there would be more power available when needed going into that range. i don't picture anyone running through town at a constant 4500. around here, that would keep me in first gear.
if i'm just cruising, i'll keep it around 3k - 3200 range, but i definitely let it go higher than that when shifting through the gears, especially if i'm trying to get somewhere in a hurry.

I have an 02 EGC w/95" engine & 203 cams. I generally shift at 3,500 RPM. When I have to get it on, I've had it to 4,200 a few (very few) times, & only one time to 4,500 RPM.
When I'm solo, I "cruise" at 2300 RPM or better. With my bags loaded or 2-up, it's 2,500 or better. My engine's "sweet spot" is 2,600-2,800 RPM which, with the stock 5-spd, is 60 MPH or a little better. At that speed, except in the twisties, I can enjoy the scenery.
Ride safely! [or, if you are inclined, "Ride fast and unsafely." - your choice.]
