Not sure why got got such good mileage out of my stock 402's. It's abnormal from what folks are saying here. I could have gotten maybe another 2-4k miles out of the rear, but since I was going to The Dragon, I wanted some first rate rubber on the back. If I hadn't replaced it, I would have easily gotten 18k miles out of it. The front tire will probably last 20k.

I ride fairly hard, two up a lot. I check tire pressure before any ride where I'm going over 100 miles. Rear pressure was kept at 40 lbs. Front pressure at 36 lbs. I did check them regularly. That may be a key??? Dunno????

I just made the new tire leap. Although I was tempted with the Pirelli Dragons.... I took the majorities advice and ordered the E3s.

I once had them on a wing and I thought they were a very good tire.

Thanks to all who gave input. I'll let you know what I think once they are on.

As of last night Dennis Kirk was the least expensive place.

I'm not sure why you'd say the E3's haven't been "road-tested enough," as there have been numerous glowing reviews of them for many months with no negatives reported that I know of. They were originally made for Gold Wings and there are several years of glowing reports from those riders if you do a search of the GW forums. I did prior to buying my first E3 and that convinced me.

I've had an E3 rear (MU90) mounted now for 17k miles and it still has 40% of its tread remaining, which translates into about double the tread life I got out of two D402's I had on this bike before it. Handling is better wet and dry, and groove tracking is much reduced compared to the D402. I honestly don't know why anyone would buy anything else, but I confess I'm a convert and very opinionated at this point in time based on my experience with them thus far.

If you must have a WW you will need to look elsewhere, but if a BW is okay I don't see a downside to this tire, and they're even cheaper than the D402 if you buy mail-order. I installed an E3 front (MT90) about 8k ago and it is wearing well too, about 80% tread remaining on it.

My front Dunlop is more worn than the rear, I think maybe my hard cornering may have some to do with that, I may take it a little easier on the turns.

I am also wondering what is all the acrimony about the D402. I had no problems except the rain grooves. I got over 15,000 on mine.

I just change to Pirelli Night Dragons because they are new and cutting edge( I hope).

I have put 25,000 kms about 15,500 miles on a pair of Elite 3s installed at the end of last season. I have found them to be far superior to the OEM 402s and at very close to same price from my dealer. I have found them superior in mileage as well as in wet weather. I ride two up and loaded most of the time.

I will install a new Elite 3 at the end of the month on the rear . I am riding an 08 Electra Glide Classic with ABS. I ride pretty close to the posted limits wherever I am but usually running long days with a lot of weight. I keep the air at 40 psi rear and 36 in the front.

I have been very satisfied with not just the long life but also rain handling. I doubt I would go back to 402s. My dealer stocks the Elite 3s so there is no supply issue.

Most I've ever got out of a rear 402 was one time I got 9000 all the others wore out before 8000. Going to E3's on the next change. Can't be any worse and I expect it will be a lot better.

E 3's are on mine now and they beat the 402's hands down for handling. I am sure they will do well on milage but, if I had to put on 2 sets a year at $340 installed... you would never hear me complain. (yes, i support my local tire guy who also rides)
